An Interesting Article on Grammar
Morning!
Have a read of this article. How important is good grammar these days? Are we more lenient or should we be concerned about people using bad grammar?
http://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/apr/28/bad-grammar-award-shortlist-english-language-nhs-tesco
Have a look through the Grammar Guide from Bristol University (see previous post) and work through some of the exercises.

AS Language Terminology and Analysis Revision
Hello! Welcome back - hope you enjoyed your break and managed to do some work!
A revision based lesson today - so here goes!
Task One
Write a quiz based on terminology and theory that you have learnt so far. I suggest writing 10 questions based around the frameworks; 5 questions on gender; 5 questions on power and 5 questions on technology.
Write it in a word document and then post it on the following padlet page Padlet
You have a maximum of 30 minutes to complete this task. Then spend some time having a look through some of the questions.
Task Two
Log onto moodle and go onto AS Language - Unit 1 - Categorising Texts - Analysis task
For each piece, identify a range of language features (find examples from each framework) and then start to link your examples to context, purpose, genre and audience.
Framework Prompt Sheet
Write a complete analysis for each piece.
Good Luck!

Revision Work
Welcome back!
I hope you had a great break break from college but not too much of a break from work! Today's lesson is a gentle revision lesson based on terminology you need to know.
First of all, please ensure that you have posted your powerpoint onto the padlet page. There are some interesting ones already. These can be used as starting points for your own revision as they are not necessarily comprehensive.
Next, spend 30 minutes maximum writing a quiz for your fellow students. Write 8-10 questions on any aspect of CLA; write 8-10 questions on any aspect of Language Change; write 8-10 questions on any other aspect of language eg power, gender and the frameworks.
When you have done this, please post on the revision Padlet page: Revision Padlet Page
Now, have a go at answering some of the questions posted.
Finally, follow the link to the exam papers. Write a plan for either the CLA or the Language Change question (we have already looked at one of the Language Change questions, so obviously do the other!) I will let you know which one to do - so don't start until you have spoken to me! You need to bring your plan to work on next lesson. June 2011 Source Booklet June 2011 Exam Paper
We will also be going through your responses to the CLA question you did at the end of last term and working out how to improve the breadth of your answers. This will be useful Ticklist for Jan 2011 Response
Great Stuff!!
